UTRS Awarded 2024 Hire Vets Medallion Award from the U.S. Department of Labor
November 2024 – For the fourth time in five years, UTRS has been recognized for its efforts to make veterans a key part of its mission.
U.S. Acting Secretary of Labor Julie A. Su recently recognized UTRS as one of the hundreds of recipients of the 2024 HIRE Vets Medallion Award during a virtual award ceremony with the U.S. Department of Labor. UTRS earned the gold award after applying earlier this year. The Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans Act (HIRE Vets Act) Medallion Program is the only federal award program that recognizes employers who successfully recruit, hire, and retain veterans.
“This award allows us to demonstrate to our employees and potential hires just how strong our commitment to veterans is,” said Shelby McCarty, UTRS Human Resources Compliance Manager. “We intend to push this commitment even further in 2025 to foster a culture of excellence when it comes to the inclusion of veterans.”
UTRS also won the award in 2020, 2021, and 2023.
UTRS joins companies across the country who have shown a commitment to hiring veterans and ensuring they have a long-term career and growth plan that uses the diverse skills they acquired through their military service. Recipients of the 2024 HIRE Vets Medallion Award meet rigorous employment and veteran integration assistance criteria. This includes hiring and retention percentages, availability of veteran-specific resources, leadership programming, dedicated human resource efforts, compensation, and tuition assistance programs for veterans.
