Supporting the Warfighter

UTRS addresses the critical need to increase the accuracy, responsiveness, and survivability of all weapon systems. Fire control systems require software engineering that enable them to hit specific targets, increase lethality, and minimize collateral damage. UTRS can meet this need, providing scalable, end-to-end solutions at system, system-of-systems, and mission levels.

Why UTRS for Combat System Controls?

Many of the UTRS personnel working in fire control are veterans, which gives us an edge over other contractors where that is not the case. Our people know how the systems need to function from the warfighter’s viewpoint. It is also easier to onboard veterans for this work than non-vets.

UTRS provides support of integrated combat system solutions across mission domains, ensuring the interoperability of systems through consistent implementation of military and coding standards. We have in-depth expertise with requirements analysis, design, development, documentation, integration, and testing in the areas of crew controls and displays, position location, navigation, gun tube laying aids, and system command and control functions, as well as digital communications, power supply, and power management.

We provide the following expertise to the Department of Defense:

  • Artillery ballistics
  • Muzzle velocity processing
  • Message parsing, composition and decomposition
  • Digital communications and Force XXI Battle Command, Brigade, and Below (FBCB2)
  • Variable messaging formatting (VMF)
  • Navigation and Geographic coordinate systems – UTM, latitude/longitude (Lat/Long), and True North coordinates
  • Design and implementation of displays and display control
  • System power up and initialization, and power supply and management
  • Soldier-machine interface
  • User datagram protocol/Internet Protocol (UDP/IP) Networking
  • Ammunition selection processing and management
  • Fuze development, engineering, and manufacturing
  • Development of automated test tools for special weapon systems
  • Embedded training
  • Prognostics and diagnostics
  • Central Technical Support Facility (CTSF)
  • Real time mission processing

System experience

Systems we have supported include Mortar Fire Control System (MFCS), Lightweight Handheld Mortar Ballistic Computer (LHMBC), Enhanced Portable Inductive Artillery Fuze Setter (EPIAFS), PM Light-Armored Vehicle (LAV) systems, and the Precision Lightweight Universal Mortar Setter System (PLUMSS), Command Post of the Future (CPOF), and Command Post Client (CPC). We have provided Common Fire Control System (FCS) software engineering life cycle support including requirements development, design, software coding and implementation, testing support, systems integration, and fielding support.
