Steve George, Executive Vice President of UTRS, has been awarded the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Service Member Patriot Award.

ESGR, a Department of Defense (DoD) program that promotes cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers, assists in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee’s military commitment. The Patriot Award is the first in ESGR’s series of awards.

The award reflects the efforts made to support National Guard or Reserve employees through a wide range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, care for families, and granting leaves of absence as needed.

Military employees, or a family member acting on their behalf, may nominate their individual supervisors and bosses for the Patriot Award for support provided directly to the nominating Service member and his or her family. SGT Michelle Schafer submitted and recommended George for the award for his support during her year-long deployment.
